LORD MAYOR LECTURE: Getting Real about Renewable Energy

Co-founder and CEO of Mainstream Renewable Power, Dr. Eddie O’Connor willspeak about the increasing urgency to cap emissions of carbon dioxide in order to avoid catastrophic climate change. Renewable energy, which is already significantly cheaper than new coal plant in many markets, will enable the transition to a global, low carbon economy at no extra cost than continued reliance on fossil fuels. In light of the Paris Climate deal where nearly 200 nations signed in end of fossil fuel era, O’Connor will address why China and Europe should work together to devise global emissions trading scheme.

Dr. Eddie O’Connor was named world energy policy leader by Scientific American magazine and was recently cited as one of the top five most influential figures in US clean energy by Oil.com.

He was the Founder and Chief Executive of Airtricity from 1997 until January 2008, when the company was sold to E.ON and Scottish & Southern Energy for €1.8 billion. Investors experienced a share price growth of 54% compound over the entire period.
