CATCHING THE SPIRIT OF CHINESE ART
Chinese art is exotic for many Westerners. One reason is that it invokes radically different aesthetic values. In this talk, John Blair and Jerusha McCormack seek fresh ways of looking at the arts of China by invoking concepts from its own civilization. Rightly understood, these may be used to move across and outside Western categories to articulate a new understanding of practices as different in our own world as writing, painting, dance, and sword-play.
