PLATFORM (2000)

Young, idealistic members of a Chinese performing arts troupe confront the seismic social, economic and cultural transformation of 1980s China in Jia Zhang-Ke’s ambitious and visually arresting second feature. Set in the director’s native Fenyang in the Northern province of Shanxi, ‘Platform’ helped to establish Zhang-Ke’s reputation as ‘the most important filmmaker working in the world today’.

The screening will be introduced by Irish Times film critic Tara Brady and will be preceded by the programme launch for the 2018 Chinese Language Film Festival Ireland (2018愛爾蘭華 語電影節).
