Storytelling with Eddie Lenihan & Vicky Yanli Wang
To celebrate the Year of the Monkey and the second edition of the Chinese translation of Irish Tales of Mystery and Magic, Ireland Literature Exchange has invited the author Eddie Lenihan to lead a bilingual Chinese–English storytelling session with Vicky Wang. Irish Tales of Mystery and Magic is published in English by Mercier Press and in Chinese by the Shanghai Translation Publishing House. Illustrations in both editions by Alan Clarke. Eddie Lenihan is an Irish author, storyteller, lecturer and broadcaster. He is one of the few practising seanchaithe (traditional Irish lore-keepers and tale-spinners) remaining in Ireland. Eddie is a collector and preservationist of folk tales maintains the largest private collection of folklore in Ireland.
Freelance translator and interpreter, Vicky Yanli Wang grew up in a small village in northeast China and has been living in Dublin since August 2014 and is currently doing an M.A. in Translation Studies in DCU.
Ireland Literature Exchange is the national organisation for the promotion of Irish literature abroad. Funded by Culture Ireland and the Arts Council, Literature Ireland awards translation grants to international publishers of Irish literature in translation, offers bursaries to literary translators and supports the participation of Irish writers at events and festivals around the world.
