Sow-prise! Dublin Chinese New Year Festival returns Feb 1 – 17 2019, welcoming Year of the Pig.

Dublin Chinese New Year Festival will mark the Year of the Pig with a two week programme of events from Feb 1 – 17 2019.

This is the 12th edition of the festival, which began in 2008, so this year we celebrate the final zodiac animal – The Pig.

The programme will include talks, visual arts, performance, film, music and many family-friendly events inviting all ages to be part of this cultural celebration.

Three festival highlights have been announced today:

DCNYF is delighted to announce that the world-renowned guitarist Xuefei Yang will perform in Dublin as part of the celebrations, on Sunday 17 February at 3pm at the Freemason’s Hall. Widely-recognised as one of the world’s greatest advocates of her instrument, Xuefei Yang’s own path to international success is an inspirational one. This performance XUEFEI YANG & GuitaRIAM is presented by the Royal Irish Academy of Music and tickets priced €10 / €20 are on sale now here.

The SPRING FESTIVAL GALA IRELAND 2019 will take place on Saturday 16 February from 7.30pm – 9pm at the Convention Centre. This is a spectacular evening of performances to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Pig, brought to you by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland and the Chinese Embassy in Ireland. Adding to the artistic diversity of traditional Chinese dance, arts and instrument performances, the gala will also feature acrobatics, Peking opera and the world heritage act of sword dance. The hugely talented and award-winning performance group Hubei Provincial Opera and Dance Drama Theatre have been on tour to over 60 countries, and will be making their debut show in Ireland. Also returning for DCNYF 2019, will be the ever-popular SPRING FESTIVAL FAIR, a two-day family fun fair inspired by traditional Chinese temple fairs, on Sat 9 and Sun 10 Feb. More details to be announced soon.
